Before Christel became a member of the European Parliament in 2006, she worked the head of secretariat of the Danish Public Information Council. Christel first ran for national elections in 1998. That sparked her passion for politics, which later on became a love for EU policy – a love which has kept Christel in the European Parliament for almost 18 years. She has an MA in history, specializing in European history.
Christel grew up in a workers’ home where everyone, of course, was: social democrats. Christel joined the Danish social democratic youth organization at the age of 13, and founded the first local branch in Soendersoe, where she lived.
