Paolo Gentiloni

Paolo Gentiloni has been European Commissioner for the Economy since December 2019.

He previously served as Italy’s Prime Minister (2016-18), Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (2014-16) and Minister of Communications (2006-08). He was a Member of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies from 2001 to 2019.

Other posts Gentiloni has held include Chairman of Italy’s Broadcasting Services Watchdog Committee (2005-06), Spokesperson for the Mayor and Councillor in the City of Rome (1993-2000). Prior to entering politics, he worked as a professional journalist.

He is the author of “La sfida impopulista” (the (Un)populist challenge), published in 2018.
